Jean Cherry - Printmaker

Jean has worked extensively as a professional printmaker and multimedia artist. Often she combines and layers a number of printmaking processes: screenprint, monoprint, blockprint, drypoint, collagraph, chine colle, working experimentally and usually using colour.

The elements of play and pleasure are important to her. She enjoys the physicality of weaving, binding, wrapping, glueing, cutting, tearing, using found or cheap materials. These finished objects, made for her own pleasure, are often the starting point for more prints and drawings.

Each print is original and unique – no editions or reproductions. Redundant prints are cut up and recyled

She has exhibited widely throughout the UK and overseas, and worked as selector, curator and co-ordinator of various printmaking exhibitions, national and international. She has always worked in education, leading workshops, lecturing, teaching and demonstrating. Currently she is Associate Lecturer on the Graphic Design Course at Sheffield Hallam University.
