Ann Bates – Ceramacist
Ann makes one-off, hand built ceramic pieces that are sculptural rather than functional. Much of her work deals with the processes of nature and is evidenced through the use of form and texture. Colour is added directly to the clay body from various oxides and 
carbonates whilst seasonally driven changes to the landscape are suggested by way of different glazes and firing techniques.
Ann’s distinctive style has evolved from emotional responses and historical associations with the landscape. The resulting forms and vessels allude to geological formations, ancient standing stones and the spiral.
